Lessons still relevant today
We can easily say women in today's society deal with and have dealt with hardships in relation to domestic violence.
Coverage throughout the states depict gory truths that quite honestly, seem unbelievable, but they are true.
Have you seen the statistics? They are horrific too, even though law enforcement is on their "game" conquering the bad guys and giving aide to various women who call for help (this takes immense effort and courage).
Reaching out for help sometimes has barriers like a package of glue sticks all clumped together or earbud wiring all tangled; one almost wants to give up....but does not.
Some examples of women who have endured hard-ache back in the day (bible times, in scripture) are: Dinah, Jephthah's daughter, Naomi, and Tamar. Dinah was visiting friends at a nearby campsite and was raped.
To make matters worse, she was promised to the perpetrator for a future marriage. Thank God that would not happen today. For more on the story of Dinah, read The Red Tent (1997) by Anita Diamant, it'll knock your bobby socks off.
Next, there's Jephthah's daughter...and that's just it, her name does not appear in this real life story (scripture). A vow was made by her earthly father, a mighty warrior (oops) and bam! her fate was made.
Naomi was a phenomenal caretaker and worthy of so much. I don't think a person could mention Ruth (her daughter-in-law) without Naomi...they were close. Naomi went through so much (losing her husband and two sons), but she carried on.
Tamar, was another beauty in the bible that was taken advantage of and unfortunately sexually assaulted. She couldn't count on anyone, not even in her family- they had failed her. The good news is when others do fail us, God never ever does. He does not promise us the perfect life, but, he will be with us when tough things happen.
All this to say these women weathered horrific storms and still came through in the end.
Thank goodness there are copious billboards with information and hotlines, a plethora of shelters across the United States, generous citizens who donate their hard work, time, and money to empower women from domestic violence.
Whether women from bible days or women today, we all have a commonality that we are God's daughters.
God's daughters are the anointed and are not alone. Women are made to thrive and women are important treasures.
