Reflection of support by the 100s
A reflection of interest, engagement, support, empowerment, and the voice of many standing for domestic violence intervention and prevention.
Emeka Nnaka, a speaker and supporter, mentioned he is "proud to be here." Also, speaker and supporter, Rosa Hernandez said "it's important to understand an other's struggle and come out of your comfort zone."
The engaging crowd stood for a worthy cause empowering women from needless struggles inflicted by domestic violence. This could often mean office visits to a local physician, missed work or productivity on the job, transitional housing, economics in some way, and safety. The list is extensive and requires numerous counseling sessions as well. Women often are rediscovering their identity and worthiness beyond measure.
Which brings me to this scripture in Ephesians 3:20, which, has various translations: "Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us." This is the English Stand Version (ESV)
What about the emotional scars left behind, where people cannot see bruises inflicted on various parts of the body, the stamp of oppression beat in her heart that she is not good enough [really, to whom?].
Once women rise with confidence and feel they can speak up, many times, this is where the conflict begins.
I can remember with my own situation years ago when I did speak up and voiced my opinion, I was hushed with harsh words and sometimes saw freshly cooked food splattered on the walls (if it was dinner time).
Perpetrators don't like to hear women standing up for themselves. For some women, it takes energy and courage to rise to to the bully saying "stop it" or "no more." You can imagine the scenes from Back to the Future where character George McFly must stand up for his rights, that was hard for him. Women more than ever, are standing up and standing firm and are scared to death for fear of assault. As statistics reflect in any research, many women stay quiet regarding any incident(s) and hope the perpetrator chills out [dream big here].
Gratefully, all of these supporters take a stand on behalf of women with a history of domestic violence who long to leave their abuser or have already left. Each, engaging in supporting women with their voice, love, honor, respect, and encouragement, embracing one another, resisting the cold.
