Domestic Violence Awareness Month:
From Being Spooked to Being Calm

Having had dealt with Domestic Violence one time in my life, I understand.

There once was a spook that was in the air, but the spook finally was swept away. Was it the broomstick or the winds and rain?

Words spoken, personalities conveyed, colors and patterns, songs and themes, what was it?

Halloween is for some, exciting- dressing up in weird costumes or fun customs of people they admire. Some, dress as angels wishing to bless people with bags of snickers, tootsie rolls, m & m's, and a variety of so many other candies. Watching all the sweet kiddos knocking on neighborhood doors (yes, kids still do that) "trick or treat"...and hopefully that is all they say.

The beauty of it from what I have seen, relish in pumpkin pie, beautiful autumn colors and all the laughter that fills the air. So one quite possibly goes from being spooked to being calm.

If you are following me on this, you see how this has everything to do with Empowering Women from Domestic Violence.

Find that place of calming. Sometimes, you will find things or people that remind you of things that were not so nice once before, however, you can get over that hump. I did and you can too.

For instance, if there is a certain color, pattern, or song that doesn't resonate with you at all, it just spooks you out, you can get past that. Quite honestly, that all comes from healing. You get healing from the Lord's Word and changing your mindsset. Tell yourself _______.

There are many calming elements out there, you just need to look for them. You can find them, you just need to look- God sends them to us all day long.

If you are in the Tulsa area, Oxley Nature Park is a beautiful place, filled with the Lord's presence. Oxley is near the Tulsa Zoo. If you are not in Tulsa, it is ok, there are plenty of beautiful parks and other locations in your area where you can find that calming presence and feel good.

A couple of years ago, I was privileged and delighted to visit, Donihue, Chile. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. I can remember walking in a neighborhood and there were flowers tall as a person (say at least 5 feet)! There were about 300-500 of each flower in the area. It was amazing and I will never forget the beauty and calming. Remember what the Lord say, "be still and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10). This verse comes from a longer section of scripture that proclaims the power and security of God.

I invite you to seek beauty-seek the Lord daily (don't miss a beat).

You will be Empowered as you thrive forward. Your future is bright and you are worthy.
