Safety Tips for Work

So good to sit down, sink my teeth into some yummy pizza and rest my tootsies. Goodness, it has been a long day.

As I reflect on the day, I can certainly smile and say, I stretched.

During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, I urge you to stretch (meaning, work on your confidence, skill building, and things you would like to see for yourself...you just need to work more on different areas and taking action). It can be kind of scary when you've been called names for so long or been treated poorly to get on the right track. But, you are getting on the right track or are already there. Congratulations!

Get out and about and meet some new girlfriends. It's important to just get out. The fresh air, the beauty of just being outside. God's glory awaits you.

Too often, women that come from domestic violence situations or backgrounds have been used to not getting out enough...isolation is ugly, stay away from it. Be empowered to know there is more out there, people that will edify you and help you...like at work!

People = Energy.

Here are some safety tips for you at work:

  • Confide in a coworker about your situation (someone you can trust).
  • Explain your situation to the head of security at the office building.
  • Give a picture of your abuser to security, your supervisor, and friends at work.
  • Ask your supervisor if they can make it harder for your abuser to find you at work.
  • Keep a copy at work of your court order, if you have one.
  • Ask someone to screen your calls, if possible.
  • Save abusive and threatening voice and emails (even text).
  • Don't go to lunch alone.
  • Ask a security guard, friend, or coworker to walk you to and from your car, bus or other mode of transportation.
  • Ask if your employer can help you find community resources.
  • Be in the know ladies- your Human Resources Department may have some benefits to offer you as well (perhaps counseling or short term leave or transfer to another location).
Stay working, this will build your confidence. Keep working, you have a paycheck. Find something you like about your job if you don't already...and maybe you do like your job.

You get a paycheck, that is awesome! You have somewhere to go each day and exercise your talents and learn more. Expand or stretch yourself in your job to be cross trained, then you would be surprised at the promotion that lies ahead with that.

Excited for you! Women Empowerment Solutions
